According to a press conference held on March 15 by the Information Office of Shandong Provincial People’s Government, due to the impact of the epidemic, more than 5 million students in Shandong have been shifted to online lessons. Shandong is to ensure the quality of online teaching for students with focus on norms of online teaching, monitoring of teaching activities, and students’ physical and mental health.
Sun Xiaoyun, deputy director of the Department of Education of Shandong Province said that the province has launched a graded emergency response mechanism for online teaching, which can realize instant shifting from online to offline teaching. At present, 6 cities and 7 counties (county-level cities, districts) in 4 cities in Shandong have launched online teaching, covering 4,619 primary and secondary schools with more than 4.4 million students. 45 undergraduate colleges and universities have launched online teaching, covering more than 1.1 million students. 162 secondary vocational schools and 63 higher vocational colleges have carried out online teaching to different degrees.
According to the current situation of the epidemic, Shandong has formulated online teaching guidelines for primary and secondary schools as well as colleges and universities, as well as special protection plans for key groups such as graduating students. In addition, it has stipulated in detail the duration, total time and sports time of daily teaching activities for primary and secondary school students, and opened psychological counseling and tutoring hotlines to promote students’ healthy mental development.
